Parijat Industries Introduces ‘Velektin,’ an Insecticide for Cotton, Maize & Chilly Crops

Velektin provides longer-lasting control of target pests such as Fall Armyworm (Spodoptera frugiperda) in maize and fruit borers (Helicoverpa armigera) in chilly due to its dual mode of action and superior ovi-larvicidal effect. Velektin's improved solubility and ease of application will also benefit farmers.

Parijat Industries (India) Pvt Ltd announced the formal launch of its patented insecticide Velektin, which will be used to combat lepidopteran pests in a variety of important crops such as cotton, maize, and chilies for farmers in India and international markets. The Central Insecticide Board has granted Parijat's Velektin the first permanent registration for control of Fall Armyworm in Maize crop in India.

International registrations have already been filed in cotton-growing countries in West and East Africa, including Tanzania, Ivory Coast, Mali, and Ethiopia, with registrations due in 2022 and 2023. In Myanmar, the product has already received provisional approval for use on maize. Velektin is a potent BlueTriangle combination that is available as a water- dispersible granule and provides effective, dependable, and broad-spectrum pest management.

Velektin provides longer-lasting control of target pests such as Fall Armyworm (Spodoptera frugiperda) in maize and fruit borers (Helicoverpa armigera) in chilly due to its dual mode of action and superior ovi-larvicidal effect. Velektin's improved solubility and ease of application will also benefit farmers.

Velektin has the potential to open up massive markets in India. According to the Indian Institute of Maize Research (ICAR). Maize covers 9.07 million hectares of land. In India, however, Chilly covers 11.9 million hectares and Cotton covers 12.43 million hectares. Velektin will also be used as a preventive measure against Pink Bollworm in cotton as part of an integrated pest management strategy. The Fall Armyworm, one of the four major maize pests, was first discovered in a maize crop in Karnataka in 2018 and has since spread across India, infesting crops such as maize, sorghum, and finger millet."

Several reports have surfaced in the last year about fall armyworm infestations primarily affecting maize crops in Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Kerala, Maharashtra, Nagaland, and other states. In collaboration with various State Level Universities and Central Institutes, Parijat conducted field trials in the states of Karnataka, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Madhya Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, and Rajasthan to demonstrate the efficacy of Velektin on Maize, Chilly, and Cotton crops to control various pests other than Fall Armyworm.

According to Uday Anand, Chief Operating Officer at Parijat Industries India Pvt Ltd, "Over the last decade, Parijat has focused on developing a formidable Scientific Research and Development infrastructure in both Technical and Formulation manufacturing. Velektin will provide Parijat with a large international market in several crops on different continents.
