Several sources are reporting that the Narendra Modi-led Centre is planning to implement the 8th Pay Commission for government employees soon, however, nothing has been officially verified as of yet.

The government clarified that "No such suggestion is under consideration with the government for the establishment of 8th Central Pay Commission for the central government employees" in a statement that was released about two months prior to the rumor's appearance.

Minister of State for Finance, Pankaj Chaudhary said this when asked if the government intended to ensure that the Pay Commission for central government employees was established in a timely manner so that it could go into effect on January 1, 2026.

How will the Central Government Employees Benefit from the 8th Pay Commission?

  • Government employees' salaries could see a significant increase if the reports are accurate and the government establishes the 8th pay panel.

  • The government's minimum pay will rise from Rs 18,000 to Rs 26,000 if the employee union's proposal is granted.

  • Additionally, the fitting factor could increase to 3.68 times.

  • Pay Commission for employees is only implemented once every ten years for the uninitiated. According to the patterns seen during the implementation of the 5th, 6th, and 7th Pay Commissions, it is generally anticipated that the 8th Pay Commission will be established in 2023 and that its recommendations will be put into practice in 2026.

The formation of the Pay Commission in 2023 would remain at the discretion of the then-central government, which would typically be concluding its term in early 2024, thus the news could not certainly be confirmed.
