Bihar Government Plans to Relocate Patliputra University Headquarters to Bakhtiarpur

The Patliputra University (PPU) administrative office has decided to relocate its headquarters to a vast 10-acre agricultural site near Bakhtiyarpur Engineering College in Bakhtiyarpur, which has invited resentful reactions from the PPU teachers’ body.

According to media sources, Asangba Chuba Ao, the secretary of the state education department has recently notified the Patna collector-cum-DM in a letter that the government had decided to give the PPU 10 acres of agricultural farmland for the development of its 'permanent campus.’

Following which the Patna District Commissioner has also been tasked by the education secretary in order to take the appropriate steps to allocate the land to the PPU.

State higher education director Rekha Kumari, who also confirmed the government's decision with media sources, said that the move has been made to help hundreds of students from the Nalanda area who have to travel to the Patna-based university office for every small task.

In addition, she said that the PPU jurisdiction, which has 25 constituent colleges and more than 100 affiliated institutions in the Bihar districts of Patna and Nalanda, is centered in Bakhtiyarpur.

The university has not yet received an official notification about the allocation of 10 acres of agricultural farmland at Bakhtiyarpur, according to a senior member of the PPU staff.

In the past, the university was given 8.05 acres of property in Patna's Mithapur institutional area, close to the city's former bus terminal. The space was eventually reduced to 6.8 acres, as there was not enough space left for the construction of the metro station. It is also being said that a 10-acre land addition would meet the university's needs there.

The Patliputra University Teachers' Association, on the other hand, has responded angrily to this choice. According to a senior professor of the university, the decision of moving the PPU headquarters to Bakhtiyarpur is not justified as the university was created after bifurcation from the Magadh University (MU), Bodh Gaya, in March 2018 to serve the needs of students in the Patna district.

Additionally, the 16 percent HRA that teachers and non-teaching staff at the university and colleges in Patna currently receive, will be reduced to barely 7 percent, after the PPU headquarters will be moved to Bakhtiyarpur.

Patliputra University, Patna was established on 18th March 2018, by the order of the Government of Bihar. Except for those affiliated with Patna University, all colleges in the Bihar (India) districts of Patna and Nalanda are governed by Patliputra University.

In addition to offering skill-oriented courses in vocational and technical/professional fields, several of these schools also operate post-graduate centers in various topics that have been authorized by the university. These affiliated units are managed by properly constituted management boards that have been approved by the university and their local governing bodies.
