The farmers of Qutubgarh village in North West Delhi will receive training in grapes cultivation as part of a series of developmental projects aimed at turning the area into a model village.

On Thursday, Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena distributed 1,000 grape saplings to the villagers with the aim of promoting grape cultivation in the area and improving the financial stability of local farmers. The farmers will receive training in grape cultivation at Krishi Vigyan Kendra.

According to Saxena, the plantation of grapes in Delhi also aims to improve the diversity of flora in the region. In addition to grapes, Saxena also distributed 2,000 guava saplings on Thursday. Saxena said that with the participation of local farmers, Qutabgarh can become a major producer of guava, which is currently imported from neighboring states, including Rajasthan.

Last September, Saxena distributed 1,000 sandalwood saplings to farmers in the area as part of a sandalwood plantation drive. Saxena also announced a series of developmental projects for the area, including the development of two water bodies and four new parks by the Delhi Development Authority.

The forest department is also developing a city forest in the area, featuring a one-kilometer walking track, the widening and deepening of ponds, the installation of bamboo huts, and the construction of toilets and other public amenities. The development is expected to promote eco-tourism in the village and support a healthy and sustainable lifestyle among villagers.

Saxena directed the municipal corporation of Delhi to upgrade the village dispensary into a polyclinic. The villagers have also urged the LG to provide a wrestling facility for women in the village, and Saxena has directed the DDA to identify a suitable space for the facility's development.
