On Friday morning, heavy rains lashed parts of Delhi-NCR (National Capital Region). The early-morning showers reduced the temperature to less than 30 degrees Celsius. Earlier today, the Regional Weather Forecasting Centre (RWFC) in New Delhi predicted thunderstorms with moderate intensity rain over and around Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR).
"Thunderstorms with moderate intensity rain will occur over many places in entire Delhi and NCR (Loni Dehat, Hindon AF Station, Bahadurgarh, Ghaziabad, Indirapuram, Chhapraula, Noida, Dadri, Greater Noida, Gurugram, Faridabad, Ballabhgarh) over the next 2 hours," RWFC said in a tweet.
The Delhi-NCR has received rain for the second day in a row, providing welcome relief from the heatwave. Previously, rain fell on the intervening nights of Wednesday and Thursday, causing flooding in several areas.
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasted thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds over Delhi for the next five days, beginning June 16. The weather change is expected to provide much-needed relief from the sweltering heat.
Under the influence of Western Disturbances and lower level easterlies, fairly widespread to widespread rainfall with thunderstorm/lightning is very likely over the Western Himalayan region, with scattered to fairly widespread rainfall over adjoining plains (Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh & Delhi, Uttar Pradesh) and isolated rainfall over Rajasthan expected over the next 5 days.

Coastal Karnataka, Kerala, Mahe, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, and South Interior Karnataka may experience widespread showers and thunderstorms. North Karnataka may also be soaked by sporadic rains.
A yellow watch has been placed on Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, and Telangana until Monday, June 20, and for Tamil Nadu until Saturday, June 18, to keep residents informed of the inclement weather.
