After launching the first-ever national database of unorganized workers the labor ministry is now looking at linking few welfare schemes with the e-Shram portal to ensure that the workers are able to claim the benefits with just one click of the mouse.

First Scheme To Link With e-Shram

The first scheme that the ministry will be linking with the e-Shram portal is the Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana, which will be done in the next fortnight. This scheme provides Rs 2 lakh accidental insurance cover to the family of the insured.

The officials in the labor ministry said that “In the event of accidental death of an unorganized sector worker, his family can log on to online portal & claim the insurance, after uploading proof of their identity. They won’t have to run around. The idea is to make the whole process smooth & hassle-free to claim benefits”.

Govt. Plans To Link Two Other Schemes

Earlier, as an incentive to register on the e-Shram portal, the labor ministry had decided to waive the annual Rs 12 premium on an accidental insurance cover scheme. By the end of a year, the government also plans to link two other schemes: PM Shram Yogi Maandhan Yojana & PM Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana - with the e-Shram Portal.

Under the PM Shram Yogi Maandhan Scheme, the workers of an unorganized sector with a monthly income of up to Rs 15,000 are entitled to an assured pension of Rs 3,000 after they retire.

The PM Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana promises Rs 2 lakh of risk coverage in case of the death of an injured worker due to any of the reasons. The premium is Rs 330 per annum under this scheme, which is auto-debited in 1 installment from the subscriber’s bank account.

Once all of these schemes are linked together, then the registered workers will be able to log into the e-Shram portal & apply for an online transfer of funds, eliminating the need to run from pillar to the post. The officials have also said that “Once all these schemes are put together then the workers will get some amount of social security. We will subsequently link the other welfare scheme with the e-Shram portal”.
