Farmers Alert: IMD Warns of Heavy Rainfall in Many States Including Tamil Nadu till 11th Nov

The IMD said isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely over Tamil Nadu on November 8 and 9 and heavy to very heavy rain at few places with isolated extremely heavy showers very likely on November 10 and 11.

On Monday, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted that exceptionally heavy rain will fall in parts of Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh on November 11. Flooding is expected in low-lying regions as well as reservoir and lake catchment areas, according to the prediction. 

A cyclonic circulation that extends up to middle tropospheric levels over the southeast Bay of Bengal and the adjoining south Andaman Sea is expected to produce a low pressure region over the southeast Bay of Bengal in the next 24 hours. By the early morning of November 11, the weather system is expected to travel west–northwestwards, developing into a depression that is expected to reach near the northern Tamil Nadu coast.

The IMD predicts isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall throughout Tamil Nadu on November 8 and 9, as well as heavy to very heavy rain in a few places with isolated extremely heavy showers on November 10 and 11. "Heavy to very heavy rains with exceptionally heavy rains at isolated locations is also possible across south coastal Andhra Pradesh over the same period "according to the statement. 

While certain parts of Chennai city, including residential areas and roadways, remained waterlogged on Monday, the water was gradually receding on Monday. 

Chief Minister M K Stalin continued his inspections on Monday after visiting the majority of the damaged regions on Sunday. 

Opposition leader Edappadi K Palaniswami also visited rain-stricken districts on Monday evening, accusing the DMK administration of failing to take adequate preventative steps in advance of the northeast monsoon. 

Alsio, heavy rains drenched most of Tamil Nadu, prompting the government in nine districts, including Chennai, to close schools as a precautionary measure. Heavy rain poured on monday and Tueasday in Northern districts such as Chennai, Kanchipuram, Chengalpattu, and Villupuram as well as Tiruvarur and Mayiladuthurai in the Cauvery Delta region and others in Southern Tamil Nadu.

According to the weather department, rainfall is also expected in parts of Kerala and Chennai for next few days.
