In order to protect farmers' interests, Haryana State Cooperative Supply and Marketing Federation Limited (HAFED) has decided to open two more centres at Ladwa and Pehowa in Kurukshetra district for procurement of sunflower seed at the minimum support price (MSP).

HAFED chairman and Gharaunda MLA Harvinder Kalyan said,   Haryana farmers were selling sunflower seeds at the prevailing market rate, which was far below the MSP. The State government would procure sunflower seeds at the MSP of Rs 3,950 per quintal, including a bonus of Rs 100, he added.

He said that HAFED would obtain the seeds under the central government's price support scheme on behalf of National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India Ltd. Procurement of sunflower seed initially started from Ambala city and Shahbad mandis from June 12 and would continue till July 31, he added.
