The Centre has again extended the deadline for linking Permanent Account Number (PAN) to Aadhaar card by another 3 months.
The Income Tax department in a tweet said, "Central Government extends the last date for linking of Aadhaar number with PAN from 31st March, 2021 to 30th June, 2021, in view of the difficulties arising out of the COVID-19 pandemic".
Our motive to publish this news is to give information to affluent farmers, agripreneurs and industrialists who file income tax returns.
It must be noted that government had made PAN-Aadhaar linking compulsory for filing ITR (income tax returns). If your PAN is not linked with the Aadhaar, then you will not be able to use the former for financial transactions like opening a bank account & availing monetary benefits such as LPG subsidy, pension, scholarships etc.
The government had passed the Finance Bill 2021 in the Lok Sabha last week where it added a new section 234H under which an individual shall be liable to pay late fee of up to Rs 1,000 in case of non-linking of PAN & Aadhaar card.
How to link your PAN card with Aadhaar
Follow the steps given below to quickly link your PAN card with Aadhaar;

Go to the Income Tax Department’s official website i.e. - https://www.incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in/home

Under Quick Links section on the left side of the homepage, look for “Link Aadhaar” and click it

Then enter your PAN, Aadhaar Number & Name as per Aadhaar.

Tick the check box if you only have the year of birth in Aadhaar & then click the check box for agreeing to confirm your Aadhaar details with UIDAI.

Now enter the captcha code on your screen.

You will get an OTP on your registered mobile number.

Finally click on ‘Link Aadhaar’ button & submit the request.

How to link PAN-Aadhaar via SMS?
If you want to link Aadhaar card and PAN through SMS then you will have to send a SMS at 567678 or 56161. You will have to write - 'UIDAIPAN (12digit Aadhaar number) space (10 digit PAN Number).'
Why we need PAN card?
Having a PAN card is compulsory for several things like opening a bank account, making cash transactions of over Rs 50,000, buying mutual funds or shares etc.
