In order to support the promotion of tribal products, the government made a commendable decision to utilize 34,000 yoga mats sourced solely from tribal artisans across the country for the purpose of commemorating International Yoga Day on Wednesday.

The Tribal Cooperative Marketing Federation of India (TRIFED), an organization working for the Tribal Affairs Ministry, dedicated to promoting the socio-economic progress of tribal communities, has successfully obtained yoga mats embellished with unique designs and motifs symbolizing diverse tribal communities.

The Ministry of Ayush has announced its intention to utilize these mats during a variety of events, workshops, and training programs arranged for International Yoga Day, as stated in an official statement released by the ministry.

The government's dedication to empowering tribal communities and commemorating India's rich cultural heritage is exemplified through this initiative. The ministry highlighted that each yoga mat acts as a vibrant tribute to the varied cultural heritage of India's tribes, encapsulating their narratives, folklore, and artistic brilliance.

Among the yoga mats featured in these government events, the notable ones include the intricately woven Madurkathi mats, also known as Madur, originating from West Bengal. Made from a reed called Madur Kottir, these mats possess remarkable non-conductive properties and exceptional sweat absorption capabilities. They hold great significance in religious rituals and are indispensable in West Bengal's hot and humid climate.

Another highlight of the government events will be the Sabai Grass yoga mats, representing the deep bond between the tribals of Mayurbhanj, Odisha, and the lush landscapes surrounding them. These mats, famous for their unique composition, offer remarkable absorbency and comfort. They are a sustainable and essential companion for yoga enthusiasts and practitioners.

Through this initiative, the Indian government aims to promote indigenous craftsmanship, empower tribal artisans, and instill a sense of pride in the nation's cultural heritage.
