Former Prime Minister Chaudhary Charan Singh's birth anniversary marks National Farmers' Day (Kisan Diwas). Kisan Diwas honors the former prime minister's commitment to India's agricultural reforms.

On the occasion of Kisan Diwas 2020, several political parties have extended their support to the farmers protesting against the three agricultural laws passed by Government in September. To celebrate the day, farmers agreed to miss a meal today and intensify their protest against the new rules.

In Punjab, the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) asked its members to observe quickly in solidarity with the farmers. Party leader Sukhbir Singh Badal agreed, according to sources, that the party will observe the farmers day and give a message that Punjabis stand united against the 'black laws' that can kill farmers.

In Uttar Pradesh, the Indian National Congress conducted a nationwide rally on Wednesday. The United Democratic Front (UDF) led by Congress marched to the Raj Bhavan in Kerala on Tuesday to give a message of unity with the protesting farmers against the new legislation.

Secretary of Defense Rajnath Singh also invited farmers on the occasion and said that the government is completely sensitive to holding talks with them. He hoped that the protest against the laws would quickly come to an end.

“I appreciate the country's farmers today on Farmer’s Day. They are providing food security for the nation. Many farmers are agitating against farm laws. With absolute awareness, Govt is holding talks with them. I hope they will quickly stop their protest,' tweeted the Minister of Defense.
