The Department of Fisheries, under the Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, is launching a nationwide campaign from February 14 to 22, 2025, to encourage registrations on the National Fisheries Digital Platform (NFDP). This initiative aims to speed up the registration process, increase approval rates, and facilitate access to various benefits provided under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Kisan Samridhi Sah-Yojana (PMMKSSY).
The campaign, in collaboration with State/UT Fisheries Departments, the National Fisheries Development Board (NFDB), and Common Service Centers (CSCs), will be held in key fisheries hotspots and potential areas across the country. The focus will be on encouraging eligible stakeholders, such as fishers, fish farmers, vendors, processors, and microenterprises, to register on NFDP and benefit from PMMKSSY initiatives like credit facilitation, aquaculture insurance, and performance grants.
PMMKSSY, which began its implementation in the 2023-2024 period with an allocation of Rs 6,000 crore, aims to formalize the fisheries sector, improve access to institutional finance, promote aquaculture insurance, and enhance the efficiency of the value chain. The scheme seeks to address significant challenges in the sector, such as fragmentation, limited credit access, and low-value chain efficiency. By doing so, it aims to foster a more resilient and sustainable fisheries industry, ultimately improving livelihoods for fishers and fish farmers.
A central component of PMMKSSY is the creation of the NFDP, a digital platform that allows stakeholders to register and gain access to various government programs and financial systems. The NFDP includes modules for registration, credit facilitation, strengthening fisheries cooperatives, aquaculture insurance, performance grants, traceability, and capacity building.
As of now, over 17 lakh registrations have been completed on the platform. With continued efforts under PMMKSSY, this digital initiative is expected to significantly boost productivity, expand both domestic and international markets, and contribute to the long-term growth of the fisheries sector.
Eligible stakeholders can now register on the National Fisheries Digital Platform to access the many benefits of PMMKSSY.
