Jewelry is seldom made from such organic material.

The manager of the Sevakart, Vidhya Havana, said that the Banashankari Gau Anusandhan Kendra has hired numerous women to produce various products out of cow dung.  One among these is ornaments.

Explaining the making process, Havanur said after drying the dung, the women remove grass and other material from it. Later, it is ground into a powder, with which clay is formed and set into molds. After this, the piece of ornament is painted to enhance its beauty, she said.

Necklaces of various designs vary in price from Rs.300 to Rs.400, while earrings cost between Rs.30 and Rs.50. While some visitors at the show appreciated the designs and their distinctiveness, others were hesitant to purchase them. Vidya predicted that a new product like this would take time to gain traction.

Vidya stated "These pieces of jewelry are one-of-a-kind, affordable, and innovative. Wearing such items just highlights our culture's rich heritage. Most people believe that these ornaments will emanate some smell, but they will not. More important, it will not cause any irritation," she said.
