On Monday, a huge number of farmers from Punjab assembled at Jantar Mantar in Delhi to oppose the center and press for certain demands to be fulfilled.
Their demands include an equal distribution of water and the enactment of the Minimum Support Price Scheme according to the reports.
Protesting amidst the heavy police presence, there were five farmer unions led by the Bhartiya Kisan Union (BKU) Rajewal accused the central government of expanding the allocation of water from the Punjab rivers to Rajasthan, Haryana, and Delhi.
Also, the other unions include the Kisan Sangharsh Committee Punjab, Azad Kisan Sangharsh Committee, All India Kisan Federation, and BKU Mansa from Punjab staging the protest.
A commission of farmers submitted a memorandum during the farmer’s protest while addressing Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the officials concerned.
The 15 months rampage opposing the now repealed farm laws, with the majority of Punjab farmers as they depend on agriculture for their livelihood and therefore the protest represented several farm bodies yet again in the national capital and planned to demand certain legal status for MSP and moreover, hold a sit-in protest at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi.
Farmer’s Demands:
The farmers urged Modi to assure the proper distribution of water for their agricultural activities and assurance of implementation of the Minimum Support Price (MSP) scheme in their proposed memorandum as promised by the center at the earliest means possible.
One of the farmers, Jarnail Singh protesting from Punjab’s Taran district said, “We need better distribution of water for the farmers for the state, and our demands are the same.”
The farmers' union demanded a special package for the Punjabi industry in a message to the prime minister. They also called for the dismissal of union minister Ajay Kumar Mishra Teni and punishment against those responsible for the Lakhmpur Kheri incident.
