Weather Today: Heavy Rainfall Likely over These Parts of the Country; Red Alert in Pune, Satara

A low pressure area lies over North Chhattisgarh & neighbourhood. It is very likely to move west northwestwards and weaken during next 24 hours.

Increase in rainfall activity very likely over northwest India from 18th August with fairly widespread to widespread rainfall over plains of northwest India and Uttarakhand along with isolated heavy to very heavy falls during 18th-20th August, says the weather department in its morning bulletin.

A low pressure area lies over North Chhattisgarh & neighbourhood. It is very likely to move west-northwestwards and weaken during next 24 hours.

The monsoon trough is active and lies south of its normal position. Its western end is likely to move northwards during next 24 hours.

A cyclonic circulation lies over south Punjab & neighbourhood at lower levels. Convergence of strong moist southwesterly winds from the Arabian Sea over plains of northwest India likely to further strengthen from 18th August onwards.

These States Likely to Get Heavy Rain Today

Under the above scenario:

(i) Increase in rainfall activity very likely over northwest India from 18th August with fairly widespread to widespread rainfall over plains of northwest India and Uttarakhand along with isolated heavy to very heavy falls during 18th-20th August.

(ii) Widespread rainfall with Isolated extremely heavy falls likely over Ghat areas of Madhya Maharashtra and Gujarat region on 17th August; over Uttarakhand & northwest Rajasthan on 18th August & over north Punjab on 19th August.

Due to the likely formation of a Low Pressure Area, fairly widespread to widespread rainfall with isolated heavy to very heavy falls is likely over Odisha and Gangetic West Bengal during 18th & 19th August.

Maximum & Minimum Temperature

Maximum temperatures were appreciably above normal (3.1°C to 5.0°C) at many places over Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh and Gilgit-Baltistan while Minimum temperatures were appreciably above normal (3.1°C to 5.0°C) at a few places over Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh and Gilgit-Baltistan, Muzaffarabad and Himachal Pradesh.
