World Water Day: ‘Groundwater- Making the Invisible Visible’

Water is required for life and is an important resource in almost all economic activities, including food production, energy production, and industrial outputs. Clean water is an essential natural resource for both humans and freshwater ecosystems, and as such, it requires careful management. This year's theme is 'Groundwater: Making the Invisible Visible.'

How can we help to Save Water- Our Most Precious Resource?

Here are some simple starting steps:

  • When not in use, turn off the taps.

  • Detect and repair water leaks in and around premises and residences.

  • Water can be reused for activities that do not necessitate the use of clean water.

  • Reduce your meat consumption by having meat-free days or becoming a vegetarian for a period of time. If more people became vegetarians, there would be less demand for meat, and supply, as well as agricultural water use, would decrease. '

  • Cook only the amount of food required: every meal thrown away wastes water that could have been used to meet other needs.

  • And one for governments: enact legislation that applies to all sectors of the economy in terms of pollution control and efficient water use.

  • Everyone should be able to reduce water waste if we keep in mind that, while we take water availability for granted, there are regions of the world where access to clean water is so limited that people, particularly children, are dying from diseases contracted as a result of a lack of potable water.

Be aware that water serves as a link between the climate system and human society; most natural disasters, such as floods and droughts, are caused by water. We can, to a large extent, manage climate variability and thus be better prepared for climate change if we manage water.

Taking care of water is taking care of us All!!
