Woman Farmers and SHG’s Assume Significant Function in Farm Sector Growth: Parshottam Rupala

The Department of Agriculture, Cooperation and Farmers Welfare organised the Mahila Kisan Diwas through video-conferencing on Thursday.

Lady farmers and lady self help groups assume a significant function in the growth of the farming sector, Minister of State for Agriculture, Parshottam Rupala commented on Thursday. 

Mahila Kisan Diwas was celebrated through video-conferencing organized by The Department of Agriculture, Cooperation and Farmers Welfare on Thursday. 

This occasion was held under the direction of Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar and honored by the presence of Parshottam Rupala, Agriculture Secretary Sanjay Agarwal and other senior officials of the department. 

Many exercises were embraced in this event. MoS Agri, Parshottam Rupala interacted with the prominent lady farmers and entrepreneurs. Digital book by the name of 'Motivating Stories of Progressive Women Farmers' was introduced. Apart from that, a couple of short video series on 'Mahila Krishak and her Contribution in Agriculture' and 'Global Examples of Successful Women Farmers' were also introduced during the event. 

While talking on the event, Rupala expressed that "lady farmers and SHGs assume a significant part in the advancement of the farming community which further supports the rural economy". 

He underlined that the uplifting examples of overcoming adversity by women farmers and entrepreneurs ought to be imitated in different states to motivate lady farmers all over the nation. Women SHG’s should create added value for the agri produce on a village level and a proper transport and supply channel should be established for the produce to reach urban regions. 

In addition, the agricultural secretary further stressed on the fact that lady farmers must avail all the major farmer-centric schemes such as Kisan Credit Card and farmer producer organisations.  

Both recently launched farming Acts, namely 'The Farmers' Trade and Commerce Act, 2020 and 'The Farmers Agreement on Price Assurance and Farm Services Act, 2020,', will enhance the sustenance of the rural community, he commented.
