In the last few years, the demand for mushrooms has increased in the market, but production is quite low in compare to demand. In such situation, farmers have a good opportunity to cultivate mushroom and earn good profits.

Govind Ballabh Pant University of Agriculture and Technology’s Mushroom Research and Training Centre is organizing three days online training programme from 09 to 11 September, in which they will give all the information about cultivation of Button Mushroom, Oyster Mushroom, Straw Mushroom and, Milky Mushroom.

Mushroom Research and Training Centre’s Joint Director Dr. K.P.P.S. Kushwaha said, “Because of Corona period, this time they will give online training, and a plus point is that, the farmers who couldn’t reach in the training centre in past times will also be able to join through online mode and more and more farmers will be able to join through online mode. Presently, there is a programme of 3 days in September, if they will get good response then, they will arrange more programmes like this so that, more and more farmers will get to know about mushroom cultivation.

Types of Mushroom

  1. Button mushroom

  2. Oyster mushroom

  3. Straw mushroom

  4. Milky mushroom

In this, Cultivation of Oyster mushroom is cheapest but this mushroom possesses maximum beneficial qualities. This mushroom is demanded in metro cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, etc.

Cultivation of Button mushroom is done in low temperature areas and by using Greenhouse cultivation technique; this mushroom can be grown year round. Government is also encouraging cultivation of Button mushroom. And its yield has increased to 20 kg per meter square, primarily which was only 3 kg per meter square only. This mushroom is mostly cultivated in Uttar Pradesh.
