Non-Basmati Rice Export Rises Double to Rs 22.856 crore during Apr-Dec 2020

According to the Ministry of Commerce, exports of non-Basmati rice more than doubled to Rs 22,856 crore in April-December 2020-21, compared to Rs 10,268 crore in the same period of the previous year. India exports non-Basmati rice to markets, such as in Asia, Europe, Nepal, Benin, the United Arab Emirates, Somalia, Guinea, the United States and several other nations.

According to the Ministry of Commerce, exports of non-Basmati rice more than doubled to Rs 22,856 crore in April-December 2020-21, compared to Rs 10,268 crore in the same period of the previous year. Non-Basmati exports experienced growth of 122.61% in Rupee terms and 111.81% in Dollar terms, the ministry said in a statement.

Basmati rice exports increased to USD 2,947 billion compared to USD 2,936 billion recorded in the same timeframe of the previous year.

Iran, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait and European countries are big destinations for Indian Basmati rice exports.

Compared to Rs 336 crore during April-December 2019, wheat exports rose to Rs 1,870 crore.

Nepal, Bangladesh and the United Arab Emirates are the main export destinations for wheat.

Likewise, cereal exports increased from Rs 32,591 crore registered during the same period of 2019-20 to Rs 49,832 crore, during April-December 2020-21.

In a separate announcement, the ministry said that in January, Indian engineering exports grew by 18.69 percent.
