Despite temporary setbacks caused by the COVID pandemic, the Indian economy is expected to grow steadily, resulting in increased industrial bases and vehicular population, as well as demand for related fuels. However, rising concerns about climate change and the rapid depletion of fossil fuels have prompted a search for alternative fuels with efficiencies comparable to those found in today's conventional fuels.
Initiatives by the Indian government such as the Ethanol Blended Petrol Programme, Green Hydrogen Policy, New Electric Vehicle Policy, Coal Gasification, and others will help strengthen energy security, reduce industrial and vehicular emissions, and position India as a leading destination for future or clean fuels.
However, the industry is concerned about the insufficient financial and operational stability of refineries, supply and demand variance, limited availability of feedstock, technology infusion, a lack of skilled labour, and consumer awareness.
