Both honey and cinnamon are popular ingredients in many cuisines around the world. They are also celebrated for their medicinal properties.

Cinnamon- Cinnamon is a spice that is procured from the bark of the cinnamon tree. It is used to make desserts and is also used in traditional medicine. Cinnamon is loaded with antioxidants that protect our body from oxidative damage caused by free radicals. It has anti-inflammatory properties that help repair tissue damage and even reduce the inflammation caused by diseases.

Consuming cinnamon regularly can help reduce bad cholesterol, reduce the levels of triglycerides, and even control blood sugar. It supports better blood sugar control by reducing our body’s resistance to insulin. It also exhibits anti-microbial properties. Therefore, it is used to make face masks and other skincare products, to fight pimples, and redness, and even boost collagen production in the skin.

Honey- Honey is a sweet substance produced by bees. Bees produce honey by processing and then refining the nectar of plants. Humans procure honey for consumption from the hives of domesticated bees. Honey mostly contains sugar, small amounts of vitamins and minerals, and polyphenols, a health-promoting plant compound. Honey is rich in antioxidants such as flavonoids and phenolic acids, which help reduce the oxidative stress caused by free radicals in the body.

Some research indicates that honey prevents heart disease as it lowers blood pressure, improves blood fat levels, and regulates our heartbeat. Honey also exhibits anti-bacterial and anti-microbial properties which is why they are used to promote wound and burn to heal. Drinking honey in warm water can suppress coughing. However, it should never be used to treat cough in children under the age of 1 due to the risk of botulism.

  • Helps lose weight- Some people believe that honey and cinnamon in warm water can help lose weight. This belief is true to an extent. For instance, honey curbs appetite whereas cinnamon promotes proper digestion of food and assists in fat burning, along with managing blood sugar levels.

The combination of honey and cinnamon in warm water helps improve our immunity and work from within to treat colds and coughs. Both honey and cinnamon also express anti-bacterial, anti-inflammatory, and anti-viral properties which can cure throat problems and infections.

  • Boosts energy- Honey and cinnamon in warm water act as a natural energy drink that helps energize our body and keep it alert. The natural sugars present in honey provide our bodies with instant energy.

  • Fights cavity-causing bacteria- Gargling with cinnamon and honey water can not only prevent cold and cough symptoms but can also fight against cavity-causing bacteria. You can also make a paste of honey and cinnamon powder and apply that to your teeth in order to remove cavity-causing bacteria present in the cracks and crevices.

  • Benefits for the skin- The combination of honey and cinnamon in water improves the overall functioning of our body. And healthy skin is the first sign of a healthy body. But cinnamon and honey paste can also be applied to the skin as a topical to treat acne. Both cinnamon and honey exhibit anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. Therefore, they remove acne-causing bacteria and reduce the redness and inflammation caused by acne. The polyphenols present in honey and cinnamon also increase the production of collagen, thereby, reducing signs of ageing.

Honey and cinnamon in water is a healthy beverage for diabetic people as it does not have any artificial sweeteners and even regulates blood sugar and glucose levels. This concoction helps reduce excessive flatulence and clear the gut of any blockages. It even heals our gum and teeth, whilst simultaneously controlling the spread of harmful bacteria inside our mouth.
