'Karupatti' is referred to as jaggery and 'paal' stands for milk. In winter, jaggery (gur) is better enjoyed. Jaggery, the most popular desi candy, has a sweet taste and a rich fragrance that brings to the dish some extra flavor.

Get it in the form of gur ki kheer or Bengali pitha - it is almost irresistible to get a wholesome chunk of gur. Along with your hot favorite makki ki roti and sarson ka saag or paratha, you can also enjoy it. In reality, if you explore the regional cuisines, gur is used to prepare different specific foods and beverages.

A glass of Karupatti Paal also known as Jaggery milk is one such heartwarming beverage.

Basically, Karupatti paal is a hot drink made from gur (majorly it is made using palm jaggery), milk, and some good spices that cook you up from the inside. This flavorful milk, besides being super good, is filled with several health benefits and is considered perfect for the winters.

Health benefits:

Jaggery is one of the key components that make the drink stand out in the batch. Jaggery is rich in minerals, vitamins, iron and more, all of which are thought to strengthen immunity and prevent flu and colds. Jaggery helps dilate blood vessels, as per health experts, and further warms us up from inside. This makes jaggery a perfect food for winter. In addition, the gur's calories help generate heat in the body and fill us with power.

Milk is the second major element. There is no requirement for an introduction to the advantages of milk. It is a nutritious food filled with calcium, phosphorus, vitamins and other minerals that are important. In addition to reinforcing our bones and teeth, owing to its protein quality, milk is touted as excellent for weight control.

Few good kitchen spices including ginger, cinnamon, mulethi, nutmeg and more are also used in Jaggery milk. Not only can these additives increase the drink's flavour, but they also contribute to the advantages. As per your preference, the spices can be customised.

Recipe for Karupatti Paal:

We used ginger powder, cardamom powder and nutmeg powder in this recipe to make it warm and more winter-friendly. Jaggery powder and cow's milk are also included. You should substitute cow's milk for some vegan option if you are someone who practices veganism.

Boil a cup of milk, add dry ginger powder, cardamom powder and nutmeg powder and blend well. All you need to do is boil. Turn the gas off and apply jaggery. Drink the jaggery milk while it is hot to enjoy it the most.

In the evening, you can drink this jaggery milk as an alternative to the very famous haldi doodh. For children at home who make a fuss about drinking milk, this drink may also be a delicious choice.

You have to give this drink a shot!
