However, due to our unhealthy lifestyle, the incidence of liver diseases is increasing rapidly. Fatty liver disease is one of the most common liver diseases that affect millions of people worldwide. In this article, we will discuss ten signs on the skin, face, and body that hint at fatty liver disease.

Yellowing of the skin and eyes: One of the most common signs of liver disease is jaundice. It occurs when the liver is unable to eliminate bilirubin, a waste product that is formed when old red blood cells are broken down. The accumulation of bilirubin leads to the yellowing of the skin and whites of the eyes.

Spider angiomas: Spider angiomas are small, spider-like blood vessels that appear on the skin. They are a common sign of liver disease and are caused by an increase in estrogen levels due to the inability of the liver to process it properly.

Itchy skin: Itchy skin is a common symptom of liver disease. The accumulation of bile salts in the skin can cause itching and irritation.

Swelling of the legs and ankles: Liver disease can cause fluid build-up in the legs and ankles. This is known as edema and is caused by a decrease in protein production by the liver.

Bruising easily: The liver produces clotting factors that help in the formation of blood clots. When the liver is damaged, it can lead to a decrease in the production of clotting factors, resulting in easy bruising.

Dark urine: Dark urine is a common sign of liver disease. It occurs when the liver is unable to eliminate bilirubin, which is excreted in the urine.

Pale stools: Pale stools are another common sign of liver disease. It occurs when there is a decrease in the production of bile, which gives stools their characteristic brown color.

Acne and other skin problems: Liver disease can cause a variety of skin problems, including acne, eczema, and psoriasis. These skin problems are caused by a buildup of toxins in the body.

Fatigue and weakness: Fatigue and weakness are common symptoms of liver disease. This is because the liver is responsible for producing energy by converting food into glucose.

Abdominal pain and swelling: Abdominal pain and swelling are common signs of liver disease. This is because the liver is located in the upper right part of the abdomen, and any damage to it can cause pain and swelling in the area.

Fatty liver disease is a common liver disease that can cause a variety of symptoms. If you notice any of the above signs on your skin, face, or body, it is essential to consult your doctor immediately. Early diagnosis and treatment can prevent the progression of the disease and improve your quality of life. In addition, it is important to adopt a healthy lifestyle, including a balanced diet and regular exercise, to prevent liver disease and maintain optimal liver health. Let us all take a pledge to take care of our liver and spread awareness about liver diseases on this World Liver Day.
