90% of Mustard Oil is Adulterated Says Atul Bora, BJP MLA

Amid steep inflation in mustard oil prices, BJP MLA from Assam’s Dispur constituency Atul Bora said on Monday if people reduced the consumption of oil, the rates will come down, and the outlets producing “spurious oil” will also shut down. “Mark my words, 90% of the mustard oil in the market is adulterated. I don’t eat mustard oil instead I enjoy boiled food. In Arunachal Pradesh, most of the families have not seen mustard oil.”

In the phase of rising mustard oil prices, BJP MLA from Assam's Dispur constituency, Atul Bora, stated on Monday that if people cut back on their oil consumption, rates would fall and stores providing "spurious oil" would close.

"Take my word for it: 90% of mustard oil in the world is adulterated." I avoid mustard oil and prefer to consume boiled foods instead. Most of the families in Arunachal Pradesh have never seen mustard oil.”

Price hikes were a heated topic in the recently wrapped by polls, the results of which will be announced on November 2.

Though BJP state president Bhabesh Kalita remarked on Sunday evening that it was Bora's "personal perspective" on the growing mustard oil costs, he reiterated Bora's sentiments, saying that those with cardiac problems should avoid all kinds of oil, including mustard oil. "When there is a surplus at agricultural sites," Kalita remarked, "things will look up again."

Last Friday, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma stated that if prices do not decline in a month's time, the state's share of VAT will be reduced.

"The BJP's justification is based on almost nothing and has no grounding with reality. The BJP uses money and muscle power to get its way. Corruption is at an all-time high, and the party's reserve bank funds have been depleted. Only share prices are rising in the country right now, and everyone knows who controls the trade," says Abhijit Mazumdar, spokesperson for the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee.

Brijmohan Agrawal, a BJP MLA from Chhattisgarh and a former state minister, sparked a controversy earlier this year when he remarked that individuals who term inflation a national tragedy should stop consuming food and using petrol.

The state's ruling party, Congress, called his statement "shameful" and said that the saffron party will soon urge individuals who oppose the BJP-led government to leave the nation.
