UGC Scholarships 2021: Apply For Scholarship Schemes By Nov 30; All Details Inside

UGC is offering a variety of scholarship schemes for students pursuing postgraduate degrees. The deadline for applications is November 30. Details may be found here.

On November 30, the University Grants Commission (UGC) will close the registration process for its four scholarship schemes. Those who have not yet applied for UGC scholarships should do so before the deadline. UGC Ishan Uday Special Scheme for North East Region, PG Indira Gandhi Scholarship for Single Girl Child, PG Scholarship for University Rank Holders, and PG SC, ST Scholarship Scheme are the four UGC scholarships available.

Candidates who are interested in applying for one of the four UGC Scholarship schemes can do so online. Aspirants can register online at scholarships.gov.in, the official website of the National Scholarship Portal (NSP). Continue reading to learn more about the UGC scholarships.

Ishan Uday Scholarship

The UGC has decided to introduce the "Ishan Uday" Special Scholarship Scheme for North Eastern Region in order to improve the GER, promote higher education, and encourage youngsters from economically disadvantaged areas of the region.

Number of Scholarships: 10,000

Eligible to apply:

  • Students from NER whose parents' yearly income from all sources does not exceed Rs.4.5 lakh per annum.

  • Passed XII or equivalent in the previous year of study, i.e. 2017 for applications due in the 2017-18 academic year.

  • Secured admission to any degree course in the first year, whether it is a general degree programme or a technical/ professional/ medical/ paramedical programme (Integrated courses included).

Scholarship amount:

For general degree course - Rs.5400 per month, whereas technical, medical, professional, and paramedical degrees: Rs.7800 per month.

PG Single Girl Child Scholarship

In order to achieve and promote girls' education, the University Grants Commission (UGC) has established a Post Graduate Indira Gandhi Scholarship for Single Girl Child with the goal of compensating direct costs of girl education at all levels, particularly for girls who are the only girl child in their family.

Number of Scholarships: 3,000

Eligible to apply:

  • Age limit: Female students must be under the age of 30 at the time of admission to the first year of a PG programme.

  • The scheme is applicable to such single girl child who have enrolled in a normal, full-time first-year Masters Degree programme at any recognised institution or post-graduate college.

  • The scheme does not support admission to a PG course via distance education.

  • University first- and second-year students who have enrolled in a normal, full-time master's degree programme at any recognised university, deemed university, private university, autonomous institution, or postgraduate college are eligible to apply.

Scholarship amount:

For a period of two years alone, i.e. the whole term of a PG programme, Rs.36,200/- p.a. In lieu of hostel and medical fees, no further extra grant will be provided.

University Rank Holders Scholarship

The scholarship will be valid for two years and will allow undergraduate rank holders from each university to pursue their Master's degree. All universities and degree-granting institutions would be required to offer rank certificates to the university's top B.A., B.Sc., and B.Com. students.

Number of Scholarships: 3000

Scholarship Tenure: 2 Years

Eligible to apply:

  • The scholarship is exclusively accessible to students pursuing their first postgraduate degree. At the time of entrance to the PG programme, age limit for the students is 30 years.

  • The scheme will not take into account distance education.

  • Undergraduate courses from the following streams have been selected for scholarship consideration: 1. Life Sciences 2. Physical Sciences 3. Chemical Sciences 4. Earth Sciences 5. Mathematical Sciences 6. Social Sciences 7. Commerce 8. Languages

  • Before confirming student applications, the relevant universities may check to see if the applicants meet all of the guidelines' requirements.

  • According to the number of students who have appeared in the undergraduate examination, the first and second rank holders (not position holders) will be considered from Universities/ Institutions and non-affiliated/ autonomous colleges.

Scholarship amount:

For a period of two years only, i.e. the whole term of a PG programme, the pay is Rs.3,100/- per month. In lieu of hostel and medical fees, no other additional grant will be provided.

PG Scholarship for Professional Courses for SC, ST

The scheme's goal is to provide financial aid to 1000 SC/ST students who want to pursue postgraduate education in professional fields.

Eligible to apply:

  • Students studying professional courses at the following Institutions/ Colleges/ Universities are eligible to apply for a scholarship.

  • Sections 2(f) and 12(B) of the UGCAct encompass universities/ institutions/ colleges.

  • Universities/ Institutions/ Colleges supported by the Central/State Government are deemed to be Universities under Section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956, and are eligible to receive grants-in-aid from the UGC.

  • Institutes of National Importance.

The award is for two or three years, depending on the duration of the postgraduate programme, and not for a longer period of study if applicable. 6.2 Candidates who are awarded PG scholarships (under ME/MTech.) would receive a monthly stipend of Rs.7800 for the length of the PG scholarship. The scholarship payment for other courses would be Rs.4500/- per month.
