Weather Alert: Heavy Rainfall and Thunderstorms Likely in These States till October 31

Heavy rains took over several parts of the country earlier this month, wreaking havoc in parts of Kerala, Uttarakhand, and Jammu and Kashmir. These untimely rains are likely to continue throughout this week in several southern states of India.

Heavy rains across the nation have caused huge loss especially in Kerala, Uttarakhand and Jammu & Kashmir in the past few days. These unexpected rains are expected to persist in many southern Indian regions this week.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), a low-pressure region has formed near the southern regions of the Bay of Bengal and is expected to advance towards the coast of Tamil Nadu in the coming days, causing exceptional weather conditions.

According to the IMD, moderate to heavy rains, with a possibility of thunderstorms, will fall in areas of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry for the rest of this week, till October 31. The low-pressure region is expected to move westward in the approaching week, according to the agency.

Rain fell in areas of Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Puducherry on October 27, according to regional weather departments. This phenomenon is expected to last till October 31, with showers falling in areas of Andhra Pradesh as well.

According to the IMD, various districts in Tamil Nadu, including Ramanathapuram, Tirunelveli, Kanyakumari, Thoothukudi, Mayiladuthurai, and Nagapattinam, as well as coastal regions in Kerala and Andhra Pradesh, could see scattered rainfall today, October 28.

The rains are expected to spread over Karnataka and Puducherry in the next one or two days, according to the meteorological agency. Heavy to extremely heavy rains are expected in Andhra Pradesh's coastal regions, including the Yanam district.

Heavy rains were seen in northern Indian regions such as Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Delhi, and Uttar Pradesh till last week. The rains in Uttarakhand took the lives of over 70 people, with dozens of people still missing.

According to the India Meteorological Department, a low-pressure region has formed in the central parts of the South Bay of Bengal and is predicted to proceed towards the Tamil Nadu coast in the next 2-3 days.

The IMD, Director General, Chennai, predicts moderate rainfall over the whole state of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry from October 29 to 31.
