Weather Today! Heavy Rains to Continue in Northern & Northeastern Parts of India, says IMD

Rainfall is expected to be widespread with isolated heavy falls and thunderstorms/lightning over Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand from July 27 to 30, Rajasthan from July 27 to 30, Uttar Pradesh and Bihar from July 28 to 30, and North Punjab and north Haryana-Chandigarh from July 27 to 30.

According to the latest bulletin of the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), as the monsoon trough continues to move northward, rainfall activity in the North Indian states will start increasing from July 27. 

Even though no state has issued a red or orange alert for Wednesday, July 27, heavy rainfall is expected in isolated locations across northern India, including Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Delhi, Rajasthan.

West Bengal's sub-Himalayan region and north-eastern states such as Sikkim, Assam and Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura are also expected to receive heavy rain.

Some southern Indian states, including Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal, as well as South Interior Karnataka and Telangana, are expected to receive heavy rainfall in isolated areas.

Thunderstorms with lightning are very likely in isolated locations across Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal, and Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura, Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada, Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal and Kerala and Mahe.

Strong winds of 50-60 kmph gusting to 70 kmph are very likely over the west-central Arabian Sea and the adjoining southwest Arabian Sea off the Somalia coast, and 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph is likely over the west-central Arabian Sea and the adjoining east central and southwest Arabian Sea.

Squally weather with wind speeds of 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph is expected over the Comorin area and the southwest Bay of Bengal off the southeast coast of Sri Lanka.

As a result, fishermen are advised not to go deep in these areas. On July 28 and 29, isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected over Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand.

From July 26 to 30, isolated heavy rain and thunderstorms/lightning are very likely over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura.
