Weather news: Vast swathes of the country's important agricultural regions are yet to receive rainfall this year, but the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Tuesday that the southwest monsoon is expected to move into the remaining parts of Bihar, additional parts of Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, and Jammu & Kashmir over the next 24 hours.

However, the monsoon won't reach Delhi until the next 48 hours, most likely on June 30 or July 1.

The remaining parts of Bihar, additional regions of Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, and Jammu and Kashmir are all expected to see monsoon rain in the upcoming 24 hours, according to the IMD.

While these areas will be covered by June 29, the remaining parts of the Arabian Sea and Gujarat, some of Rajasthan, the remaining parts of Madhya Pradesh, the entire rest of Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir, some parts of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and the entire city of Delhi are likely to experience the beginning of the monsoon on June 30 and July 1.

"We have been monitoring the monsoon's development, and right now the circumstances are right for it to advance considerably over the next three days or so." RK Jenamani, a scientist at IMD, stated that "Delhi should see the commencement by June 30 or [it will be declared] by July 1."

Monsoon in Delhi

The monsoon typically arrives in the national capital on June 27, therefore this year it will arrive at least three days later than usual, similar to last year when it arrived 16 days later on July 13.

According to the IMD's seven-day prediction for Delhi, there may be light rain and drizzles tonight in some locations, and a yellow alert is in effect for Wednesday due to 'mild to moderate' showers and gusty winds. However, most of the expected rainfall is predicted for Thursday (June 30), and an orange alert is in place.

Rain is expected from June 29 in Delhi, but the main activity will occur on June 30. The monsoon may be declared over Delhi on the same day or the following day, depending on how it progresses, Jenamani continued.

Today's maximum temperature in Delhi is predicted to be 41 degrees Celsius, while the humidity is predicted to stay high. On Wednesday, the temperature is predicted to be around 42 degrees. But by Thursday, the temperature is predicted to fall to about 38 degrees.

According to the IMD, the monsoon has progressed throughout the most of Gujarat and the Arabian Sea. According to the weather department, the northern limit of the monsoon (NLM) is currently passing over Deesa, Ratlam, Shivpuri, Rewa, and Churk.
