Government Releases Fourth Advance Estimates of Major Agricultural Crops for 2021-22

Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Narendra Singh Tomar stated that the record production of so many crops is the result of the Central Government's farmer-friendly policies under the capable leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, as well as the farmers' tireless hard work and the scientists' diligence.

The Union Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare has released the fourth advance estimate of major agricultural crop production for the year 2021-22. Foodgrain production in the country is estimated to be 315.72 million tonnes, which is 4.98 million tonnes higher than foodgrain production in 2020-21. The average production of foodgrains in 2021-22 is 25 million tonnes higher than in the previous five years (2016-17 to 2020-21).

Rice, maize, gramme, pulses, rapeseed and mustard, oilseeds, and sugarcane production are expected to set new records. According to the 4th Advance Estimates, the following major crops are expected to be produced in 2021-22: Foodgrains 315.72 million tonnes, Rice 130.29 million tonnes (record), Wheat 106.84  million tonnes, Nutri / Coarse Cereals 50.90 million tonnes, Maize 33.62 million tonnes (record), Pulses 27.69 million tonnes (record), Tur 4.34 million tonnes, Gram 13.75 million tonnes (record), Oilseeds 37.70 million tonnes (record), Groundnut 10.11 million tonnes, Soyabean 12.99 million tonnes, Rapeseed and Mustard 11.75 million tonnes (record), Sugarcane 431.81 million tonnes (record), Cotton  31.20 million bales (each of 170 kg), Jute  & Mesta 10.32 million bales (each of 180 kg).

Rice production is expected to reach a record 130.29 million tonnes in 2021-22. It is 13.85 million tonnes higher than the five-year average production of 116.44 million tonnes.

Wheat production is expected to be 106.84 million tonnes in 2021-22. It is 2.96 million tonnes higher than the five-year average wheat production of 103.88 million tonnes.

Nutri / Coarse Cereals production is estimated at 50.90 million tonnes, up 4.32 million tonnes from the previous five-year average of 46.57 million tonnes.

Total pulses production in 2021-22 is expected to be a record 27.69 million tonnes, up 3.87 million tonnes from the previous five-year average of 23.82 million tonnes.

Total oilseed production in the country is expected to reach a record 37.70 million tonnes in 2021-22, up 1.75 million tonnes from 35.95 million tonnes in 2020-21. Furthermore, the production of oilseeds in 2021-22 is 5.01 million tonnes higher than the average production of oilseeds.

Sugarcane production in the country is expected to reach a record 431.81 million tonnes in 2021-22, up 58.35 million tonnes from the average sugarcane production of 373.46 million tonnes.

Cotton production is estimated to be 31.20 million bales (each weighing 170 kg) and 10.32 million bales (each weighing 180 kg).

The assessment of crop production is based on data received from states and validated with information obtained from other sources. The estimated production of various crops according to the 4th Advance Estimates for 2021-22 in comparison to the comparative estimates for 2007-08 and later is attached.
