More than 76% of Sugarcane Harvested so far

As the sugarcane grinding process nears completion, upwards of 76 percent of the nation's sugarcane production has been harvested.

According to numbers published by the agriculture ministry, the total scope of sugarcane in the rabi season of 2020-21 is projected to be around 48.51 lakh hectares. Up to this point, upwards of 76 percent of the crop has been harvested.

Sugar mills in certain parts of the nation have already shut their doors because they have finished crushing the cane produced in their territory, while others are nearing the end of the process.

During the 2020-21 rabi season, harvesting of rabi crops was conducted in 44 percent of the entire 697 lakh hectares sown area. Farmers have started sowing early kharif crops for the 2021-22 crop year in regions where harvesting has been completed. Ranging between July and June.

Since March 18, 2021, sugar mills in Maharashtra have generated 957.57 lakh quintal sugar from 920.23 lakh tonnes of sugarcane, with a recovery rate of 10.41%.

As per the sugarcane commissionerate, a total of 187 sugar mills from across the state competed in the current crushing season's cane crushing operations. After crushing 920.23 lakh tonne sugarcane with a recovery of 10.41 percent, these mills yielded 957.57 lakh quintal sugar.

There are 31 mills in Solapur, 9 in Kolhapur, 3 in Ahmednagar, and 2 each in Aurangabad, Nanded, Pune, and Amaravati that have closed their doors.
