Mandi Updates: Wholesale Prices of Cardamom Rise, While that of Cumin Fall

The wholesale prices of cardamom in Maharashtra rose by 4.04% and the cumin prices in the state fell by 34.29%.

The wholesale prices of cardamom rose, while that of cumin fell in the benchmark markets across India, according to the data by the Agmarknet portal, run by the Union Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare. 

The wholesale prices of cardamom in Maharashtra rose by 4.04% to Rs 182,067 per quintal in February, while they fell in Kerala by 14.23% to Rs 134,504 per quintal. This led to an increase in the average month-on-month wholesale prices of the aromatic spice by Rs 21,011.17 per quintal to Rs 158,285.5 in February.

The prices of cumin, another important kitchen spice fell across the key markets. The average month-on-month wholesale prices fell by Rs 6,066.45 per quintal to Rs 22,709.8 in February. In Maharashtra, the wholesale prices fell by 34.29% to Rs 34,764 per quintal.

However, the wholesale prices of cumin rose in states such as Gujarat, Karnataka, and Rajasthan. In Gujarat and Rajasthan, the prices increased marginally by 0.69% and 0.18% to Rs 26,845 and Rs 27,884 per quintal, respectively.
