Mandi Updates: Wholesale Prices of Cumin Fall While Those of Turmeric, Coriander Rise

Despite the month-on-month wholesale prices of coriander falling in key producing states in February, the average wholesale prices of the aromatic spice increased marginally.

The month-on-month average wholesale prices of spices such as turmeric and coriander increased in February, while those of cumin fell, according to the data by the Agmarknet portal, run by the Union Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare. 

Despite the month-on-month wholesale prices of coriander seeds falling in key producing states such as Gujarat, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, and Chhattisgarh, the average wholesale prices of the aromatic spice increased marginally by Rs 28.67 per quintal to Rs 8,113.5 in February. This is due to a significant rise in wholesale prices of the seeds in Karnataka by Rs 2,477 per quintal to Rs 13,602 in February.

Similarly, the month-on-month average wholesale prices of raw turmeric also increased in February by Rs 903.67 per quintal to Rs 4,521.67. With a whopping rise in wholesale prices in Gujarat by Rs 2,517 per quintal to Rs 9,044 the average wholesale prices of raw turmeric rose in February. The wholesale prices of yellow spices increased significantly by Rs 194 per quintal to Rs 1,921 in Rajasthan. Interestingly, in Uttar Pradesh, the prices remained unchanged at Rs 2,600 per quintal.

However, the month-on-month wholesale prices of cumin plummeted sharply in Maharashtra by Rs 17,220 per quintal to Rs 35,683 in February, leading the average wholesale prices to fall. However, in states such as Rajasthan and Karnataka the per quintal wholesale prices of the essential spice increased by Rs 730 and Rs 1,993 to Rs 28,564 and Rs 9,700, respectively.
