Farmers to Observe Nov 19 as Fateh Diwas to Celebrate Repeal of Farm Laws

On Monday, the Samyukta Kisan Morcha decided to mark November 19 as "Fateh Diwas," the day Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the repeal of the three contentious agri laws, and December 11 as "Vijay Diwas," the same day the farmers began to return home from the Delhi Morcha.

Dr. Darshan Pal, a member of the SKM coordination committee, provided details, stating that PM Modi had announced the repeal of the farm laws on November 19 of the previous year. As a result of our protest at the Delhi border forcing the PM to repeal these laws, unions will celebrate it as Fateh Diwas.

The decisions were made at a SKM meeting held in New Delhi's Gurdwara Rakabganj. Pal, who also serves as the head of the Krantikari Kisan Union, said that farmers marched to the borders of Delhi on November 26, 2020. He added that on December 11, 2021, farmers returned home from the dharna site, and that day would be observed as "Vijay Diwas" as a result.

"To mark the day, we will be marching towards Raj Bhawans in every state on November 26 and submitting memoranda as Union government has failed to fulfil the promises it made," he said.

According to him, the farmers will submit a list of their demands to all Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha members nationwide "so that their demands are raised" in Parliament. The unfulfilled pledges would also be brought up with them if they are members of the ruling party, said Jagmohan Singh Patiala, general secretary of BKU Dakaunda.

The three "Agriculture Bills" that had previously been approved by the Indian Parliament were turned into acts when President Ram Nath Kovind gave his approval in September 2020. The following are these Farm Acts:

1. Farmers’ Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, 2020

2. Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and Farm Services Act, 2020

3. Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act, 2020

The three farm rules, which have been the focus of vast farmer demonstrations then, were announced to be repealed by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the pious occasion of Gurupurab in 2021. He then made an appeal to the farmers to halt their agitation and go home. On November 26 last year, the farmers' protest completed its one year.

Addressing the nation, Modi claimed that the laws would have benefited the farmers while expressing regret to the populace and stating that the administration was unable to persuade all farmers despite having a clear conscience and a good heart.

"There may have been some failure in our attempts since we could not tell the truth to some of our farmer brothers as clear as the light of the diya," he remarked. He claimed there was no reason to point the finger at anyone, noting that it was Guru Nanak Dev's birth anniversary.
