Around 18,000 villages from the state of Gujarat will be getting power supply throughout the day for horticulture purposes before 2022 is over, Chief Minister Vijay Rupani reported.

A total of Rupees 3,500 crore has been allocated by the prevailing BJP government to make the essential framework for this resourceful 'Kisan Suryoday Yojna' (KSY), Rupani said tending to a social affair in Tilakwada town located in Narmada district while dispatching the project for 39 villages of the locale.

A year ago, the scheme was launched by PM Modi in the month of October and the same is pointed towards giving power supply during the day time for the water system and cultivation purposes, for the whole state, and other villages of various locales are being covered in a staged way, Rupani commented.

"Farmers of the state have been requesting that they should be given power supply during the day time, as visiting the fields in the night for farming and to water the crops is very risky. That is the reason we have endorsed this plan having a financial budget of Rupees 3,500 crore," the CM said.

He also said his administration's objective is to give power for agrarian purposes during the day to nearly 4,000 towns by January 20, 2021 and to all the 18,000 villages before the finish of the year 2022. "Presently, farmers can perform their everyday work during the day and rest around evening and night time," he said.

Rupani said dissimilar to the past Congress rule, the BJP-drove administration in Gujarat is the "ranchers' administration". He asserted that some fighting farmers were shot dead during Congress rule more than 25 years back in Gujarat.

Saurabh Patel, Energy Minister of Gujarat state said that the government will provide a subsidy of Rupees 7,500 crore in the year 2021 by giving low-cost electricity for horticulture. "From the past many years, we have not expanded the tariff rates for the farmers. In spite of the fact that the cost is expanding, we have kept the tariff rate at just Rs 60 paise per unit," he commented.

"For farmers, the public authority will pay a sum of Rupees 7,500 crore to GUVNL i.e. state power entity as part of subsidy for this year," Patel added. He said the whole state will be covered under the Kisan Suryoday Yojna in a span of three years.
