IMD Predicts Severe Rainfall, Snowfall & Strong Surface Winds in North India from Feb 23-25

The India Meteorological Department on Tuesday issued a fresh set of weather warnings and forecasted heavy wet spells for the northern states during the next three days (February 23-25).

The India Meteorological Department issued a new set of weather warnings on Tuesday, forecasting heavy rains in the northern states over the next three days (February 23-25). According to the most recent report, the cyclonic circulation over northwest Afghanistan at middle tropospheric levels has caused cyclonic circulation over northwest Rajasthan and Punjab.

While approaching Western Disturbances have altered weather conditions in central and northern India.

IMD Predictions for Feb 23-25:

  • In Jammu and Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand, widespread to light-moderate rainfall/snowfall is predicted over the next two days, with scattered rainfall and snowfall likely over the next three days.

  • Isolated thunderstorms and lightning are expected to occur over the region during the next two days. Over the northeastern states, isolated heavy rain/snowfall is also possible.

  • Over the next five days, isolated light rainfall is very likely across north Punjab, north Haryana and Chandigarh. Rainfall is expected in Uttar Pradesh between February 24 and February 26. Rainfall is expected in north Rajasthan on February 23, according to the India Meteorological Department.

  • According to the IMD's forecast, isolated thunderstorms and lightning are probable across north Punjab, north Haryana, and Chandigarh during the next two days. Beginning February 22, strong surface winds (25-35 kph) will prevail across Punjab, Haryana-Chandigarh-Delhi, East Rajasthan, and West Uttar Pradesh.

  • However, gusty winds (25-35 kph) are expected to dominate across West Rajasthan from Tuesday.

  • Isolated to scattered light/moderate rainfall is expected across Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, West Bengal, and Sikkim in the coming days.

  • Isolated to scattered light/moderate rainfall is probable across Sub-Himalayan West Bengal-Sikkim, Odisha, Gangetic West Bengal, and Jharkhand. On February 24, East India might get isolated to scattered light/moderate rainfall.

  • According to the IMD prediction, scattered to moderately widespread rainfall is very likely over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura on February 25th, with thunderstorm and lightning activity.

  • According to the IMD prediction, isolated light rain is predicted to persist across Tamil Nadu-Puducherry-Karaikal and Kerala.

  • Apart from this, the Gangetic West Bengal is very likely to experience isolated rainfall on February 23.
