Mega Oil Palm Plantation Drive Organized in 11 States To Help Farmers Become Atmanirbhar In Edible Oils Production

The Mega Oil Plantation Drive provides various incentives to farmers such as quality planting material, financial assistance for the maintenance of the crop, and intercropping.

The Mega Oil Palm Plantation Drive was organized under the National Mission on Edible Oils – Oil Palm, State Governments along with Oil Processing companies. The drive began on July 23, 2023, and concluded on August 12, 2023, covering 49 districts in 11 states.

Several dignitaries including senior political leaders, department officials, and gram panchayat members also graced the series of events that were conducted as part of the Pan-India Mega Oil Palm Plantation Drive.

Under the scheme, farmers are also provided various incentives such as quality planting material, financial assistance for the maintenance of the crop, and intercropping. Additionally, the farmers are provided an assured market with guaranteed prices for their produce.

Mega Oil Palm Plantation Drive: Objectives

  • The major aim was to promote and increase oil palm cultivation which will help the farmers of the country to become ‘Atmanirbhar’ in edible oils production

  • It also puts focus on achieving the target of bringing an additional area of 6.5 lakh hectares under oil palm production by 2025-2026

  • Through this drive, the companies and the states were able to reach out to more than 7000 farmers in 77 villages of 49 districts in 11 states. This covers approximately 3500 hectares of the area and plants more than 5 lakh planting material.

The Palm Oil Processing companies such as Godrej Agrovet, Patanjali Food Pvt. Ltd., and 3F participated actively in the drive. Apart from that, other regional companies such as KE Cultivation and NavBharat were also present.

As part of the mega plantation drive, the companies also organized unique and intensive large-scale technical training seminars on oil palm cultivation for farmers along with the staff members.

The seminars aimed to make the farmers and the staff more aware of the management packages which will help to ensure the plants’ health, thereby enhancing productivity and creating sustainable income sources.
