Every year on January 26, India's Republic Day parade attracts all of its citizens as well as the global audience. However, in light of the rising number of COVID-19 cases, the government has chosen to limit the number of people physically attending the event, with no foreign dignitary as the chief guest.

However, for the first time, auto-rickshaw drivers, sanitation workers, construction workers and frontline workers are among those invited.

People from all walks of life have been invited to the Rajpath Republic Day celebration this year. According to an official from the Ministry of Defence, a special effort was made to provide an opportunity to those who never get a chance to witness the celebration.

COVID Impact on Celebration

The celebration will be held with many restrictions due to the rising number of COVID-19 cases. The number of people physically attending Republic Day might range between 5000 to 8000, significantly lower than last year's audience counts of 25000.

Due of the COVID-19 threat, only double-vaccinated guests are permitted, and they are required to maintain a six feet distance from the enclosures, wear masks, and follow other Covid protocols.

All the guests will go through thermal screening and be provided with medical support in a closure. Senior citizens and children under the age of 15 will not be permitted to attend the event as a precaution.

According to the official, "We will broadcast the Republic Day celebrations to all viewers on the internet, television, and other social media platforms. We are encouraging people to participate in the celebration from their home." Ten big LED displays have been put on either side of the Rajpath to present a better view of live performances to the guests.

Tableaux Selected for Republic Day 2022

Tableaux of 12 states and union territories and nine ministries have been finalized for participation in the event.

Arunachal Pradesh, Haryana, Chhattisgarh, Goa, Gujarat, Jammu and Kashmir, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Meghalaya, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, and Uttarakhand are among the states and the ministries include  Education, Skill Development, and Entrepreneurship; Civil Aviation; Post under the Ministry of Communication; Home Affairs; Housing and Urban Affairs; Textiles, Law and Justice; Jal Shakti; and Culture.

Between Vijay Chowk and India Gate, the Rajpath, which is being renovated as part of Central Vista has been opened for the Republic Day celebrations.
